Un ricordo is a documentary series that sets to examine the interiors of Italian-Canadian homes. Within these homes can be found a series of repetitive elements: religious icons, delicate fabrics, memorabilia, and relics of the home country, alongside North American objects that have slowly entered the immigrant families' visual culture. These homes were the ones in which I grew up, and became interchangeable from one another. This décor has now become iconic with an entire generation of Italian immigrants. The name of the series translates to both a memory and a keepsake. As it suggests, the photos set out to immortalize these homes, and the working class generation that struggled upon their arrival during the 1950's and 1960's in North America. It sets out also to emphasize the ways in which the migrant struggles in order to keep tradition, heritage, and culture post-immigration, and avoid a complete immersion into North American culture.
